Biomaterials make up 55% of new version of nylon 6.6
Nylon 6.6 producer Nilit has launched Sensil By Nature, a yarn made from 55% biomass.
The company said its aim was to cut down on its consumption of fossil fuel-based feedstocks and to find ways to use renewable raw materials instead. It has described the biomass it has used to make the new yarn as reclaimed organic waste.
Its claim is that Sensil By Nature provides a carbon-footprint saving of 900 kilos of CO2-equivalent per tonne compared to standard nylon 6.6, while retaining the performance and appearance attributes of earlier versions of Sensil.
Nilit said the new yarn would make soft fabrics that would “remain like new for years”.
