Fibre manufacturer Unifi has published a statement to honour the biggest users of its Repreve recycled polyester, produced from used plastic bottles.

More than 90 brand, textile, and retail partners receive recognition in the statement for their commitment to recycled polyester.

At the top of the list are Nike and Target. Unifi said both companies had reached the milestone this year of having invested in enough Repreve to account for 2 billion recycled bottles each.

It also gave special mentions to Polartec, Wal-Mart and Texhong Textile Group, whose use of Repreve accounts for the transformation of more than 1 billion plastic bottles each.

Unifi chief executive, Eddie Ingle, said: “We applaud [this] demonstrated commitment to sustainability, which has allowed us to recycle more than 30 billion bottles to date.”

The fibre manufacturer also singled out Turkish denim brand Mavi for praise, presenting it with a special recognition award. Commenting on this, Unifi’s vice-president for marketing and communication, Bev Sylvester, said: “As a leading global denim brand, Mavi demonstrates Repreve’s global reach. Consumers now expect brands to make products responsibly, which Mavi has capitalised on through its focus on sustainability.”
