Unifi names Champions of Sustainability
US-based Unifi, maker of recycled polyester yarn Repreve, has named the recipients of its sixth Repreve Champions of Sustainability awards.

This year, commendations go to 33 brands that have transformed 10 million or more recycled plastic bottles, and 59 textile partners that have transformed 50 million or more through the use of Repreve fibres.

Nike and Polartec both win the One Billion Bottle Circle award, while footwear group Deckers, through its Teva and Ugg brands, is commended for transforming the equivalent of 100+ million plastic bottles.

American Eagle Outfitters receives the Newcomer Award for transforming 25+ million plastic bottles in one year and H&M received the Special Recognition Award for their usage of Repreve Our Ocean fibres and yarns, transforming 600+ million plastic bottles.

Eddie Ingle, CEO of Unifi, said: “We deeply value our extraordinary partners who have demonstrated that sustainability is an integral part of their business. Together, we will continue to work with these companies to reduce negative environmental impacts and be good stewards of our planet and our future, while inspiring our industry to do the same.”

Separately, Unifi has been given an ‘honourable mention’ in the Fast Company’s 2023 World Changing Ideas awards in the Sustainability/Energy category for its Textile Takeback initiative, which collects polyester-based fabrics, including discarded post-consumer materials, and turns them into Repreve.
