‘Change needed’ on polyester, says Unifi, with double launch
US-based yarn maker Unifi, producer of recycled polyester yarn Repreve, has launched two 100% recycled products through its Textile Takeback process, which uses industrial and post-consumer waste as feedstock.

The first is a white, dyeable filament yarn containing a FiberPrint tracer technology, which can detect Repreve through the chain to the fabric.

The second is an insulation material, ThermaLoop, available in down-like fibre, fibreball and padding. Its launch in black insulation showcases the wide variety of textile waste that can be used as feedstock, said Unifi. The padding is fast-drying, lightweight and machine washable.

Eddie Ingle, CEO of Unifi, said: “Polyester is the most widely utilised fibre on the planet, and it’s time for transformative change.

“Textile brands can now create solutions with the entire product lifecycle in mind and work towards achieving their 2030 environmentally preferred materials targets.

“Our goal is to provide the best-in-class sustainable products that eliminate the need for virgin materials and reduce carbon emissions.”
