Flat sales but Unifi’s facility closure will reduce costs
US-based Unifi, the maker of Repreve recycled polyester yarn, has reported flat sales for third fiscal quarter at $146.6 million.
Revenues from Repreve products were $44.7 million and represented 31% of net sales.
During the quarter, Unifi sold its facility in Madison, North Carolina for $53.2 million. Proceeds will be used to repay outstanding debt.
Eddie Ingle, CEO of Unifi, said: “Our results for the third quarter were in line with our expectations, driven by an improved performance in our Americas segment due to the positive traction we have experienced with the growth of our business in Central America."
The manufacturing transition and restructuring charges will continue through the first quarter of fiscal 2026, as machinery and equipment is relocated to other manufacturing facilities in North and Central America, with no expected reduction in capacity or customer service. The company expects to achieve an annual cost savings of approximately $20 million, primarily comprised of lower headcount and operational synergies.
Mr Ingle added: “As we look ahead to the remainder of calendar 2025, we expect to see further benefits from our restructuring actions, which will improve our cost structure and operational performance. This gives us confidence that Unifi is well-positioned to pivot to growth.”
The company also launched Fortisyn, an abrasion-resistant yarn engineered for durability for military and first responder uniforms and tactical gear. It is available in nylon 6,6 and Repreve Nylon, a recycled type 6 nylon made from post-industrial yarn waste.
