Unifi hits 1 billion t-shirts worth of waste

Recycled polyester yarn supplier Unifi has celebrated hitting 1 billion t-shirts worth of textile and yarn waste transformed through the Repreve platform as well as its first products made from textile waste in insulation and white filament as part of its sixth sustainability report, Snapshot.

Unifi said it now aims to recycle 65 billion plastic bottles by FY2030, as well as transforming the equivalent of 1.5 billion t-shirts worth of textile and yarn waste. Repreve was launched in 2007.

Repreve Takeback is produced via Textile Takeback, a textile-to-textile process that recycles textile waste including offcuts, misprints and end-of-life garments, used by Walmart to create a Joyspun sock.

Launched in 2024, ThermaLoop Insulation is also produced via Textile Takeback and is available in down-like fibre, fibreball and padding.
