Bono is on board to help HeiQ drive change to new yarn
Chief executive and co-founder of textile technology developer HeiQ, Carlo Centonze, travelled to Monaco to represent Switzerland at the EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year event, which ran from June 8-10.
The winner of the event was Argentina’s Gastón Taratuta, who has developed a new digital advertising platform, but Carlo Centonze was still able to make a splash at the event.
He was able to network with entrepreneurs from 41 finalist countries and also with special invited guests.
Activist and U2 vocalist, Bono, took part in a discussion with EY chief executive, Carmine Di Sibio, and said that climate is a pressing global issue, but one that he felt sure innovation could solve.
HeiQ’s new cellulosic yarn, AeoniQ, is one of the developments that helped the textile technology company win at the Entrepreneur Of The Year competition in Switzerland at the end of 2021. It says this new yarn has the qualities, affordability and scalability to replace all of the polyester and nylon currently in use in apparel manufacture across the world and describes it as “the world’s first climate-positive fibre”.
In Monaco, Carlo Centonze said he had the chance to talk to Bono about AeoniQ and that the singer’s response was to commit to helping HeiQ convince more clothing companies to switch away from polyester and use the new fibre instead.
