Recycled textile twist for 'circular' yarn
Swiss textile technology developer HeiQ has entered into a strategic partnership with Renewcell, the Swedish company behind regenerated textile fibre Circulose, made from discarded cotton-rich garments such as jeans and factory off-cuts.

The agreement centres on the former’s AeoniQ cellulosic yarn, introduced last year, which can be produced from a range of natural sources, including algae and wood pulp.

AeoniQ has previously been billed as “a potential game-changer” for those seeking to design petroleum-derived fibres such as conventional nylon and polyester out of their assortments.

After joining hands, the two firms will work together to commercialise AeoniQ cellulose filament yarns from Circulose textile waste pulp.

Chief executive at Renewcell, Patrik Lundström, commented: “Our partnership with HeiQ utilises Circulose as a feedstock for the game-changing AeoniQ yarn and positions us both for a massive breakthrough in the right, disruptive direction for the global textile industry – 100% textile-to-textile recycled, bio-based, biodegradable and with the physical performance of polyester and nylon, a Circulose AeoniQ yarn will excite any brand interested in climate and the environment."
