Protective equipment developer POC has produced a new cycling helmet, the Myelin, with each component designed for recycling at end of life. In addition, 50% of the material used to construct the helmet is recycled.

Materials used in the Myelin are secured together with strategically placed fasteners and what POC has called “a unique, recycled-fabric weave shell”, adding this eliminates the need for adhesives and laminated materials. This, in turn, allows for the separation of the pieces of material at the end of the helmet’s life. Once the fasteners are cut, the helmet deconstructs into its constituent parts.

The Swedish company’s sustainability manager, Marie Sjöström, said: “We want to provide the highest level of protection to cyclists and to natural resources. Our goal is to keep improving, but we also want to show what is possible and lead the way in helping us all use resources in the best way possible.”
