Sustainable Chemistry for the Textile Industry (SCTI), a body launched in 2020 by seven founding partner companies, has teamed up with bluesign to develop a new “sustainable chemistry index”. They have said they hope the new index will provide “a standard communication guide for chemical suppliers, manufacturers, brands, and NGOs”.

Bluesign and SCTI said they want to make it easier for stakeholders “to assess the sustainability of textile chemical products against the highest standards”, while safeguarding the intellectual property (IP) of participating chemical companies. IP protection is critical to ensuring ongoing investment in sustainable solutions, they said.
