Circularity commitments help bring Ulf Jenson to Sympatex

High-tech functional materials developer Sympatex has appointed Ulf Jenson as business development manager.

Mr Jenson has spent the last six years in senior roles at specialist online retail groups but before that he worked in footwear and sporting goods for more than 15 years at brands including Merrell, Birkenstock, Nitro Snowboards and Élan.

On joining Sympatex, he described himself as someone who was passionate about sport and the outdoors, but also about the “responsible treatment of nature and its resources”.

He said that one of the reasons he had been attracted to the idea of working at Sympatex was the company’s commitment to sustainability and circularity.

Sympatex’s breathable, water- and wind-resistant membrane technology has been in use in clothes, shoes, accessories and technical applications since 1986. It has now said it will not use new materials from the oil industry in the future and will, instead, use “the 100 billion garments and 23 billion pairs of shoes produced annually, once they have reached end of life” as a future source of new raw material for membranes, laminates and functional textiles.
