Progress for Nilit against sustainability targets
Nylon 6.6 maker Nilit has announced “significant progress” on sustainability goals it set itself one year ago when it published its first corporate sustainability report.
It said it had reduced the environmental impact of its manufacturing activity, including polymerisation, spinning and texturing compared to baseline figures from 2017.
Achievements include savings of 24% in electricity consumption, a 26% decrease in energy for heating, a 32% reduction in energy for cooling and a 23% reduction in its use of steam.
In terms of product innovation, Nilit pointed to further progress, for example by incorporating biomass ingredients in place of fossil-fuel stocks into its Sensil By Nature product, while its Sensil BioCare is engineered to biodegrade rapidly in seawater and soil, contributing to efforts to tackle textile waste in oceans and landfills.
