Biella-based collective makes staple fibre’s first garments

At the Filo yarns and fibres exhibition in Milan (September 14-15) Asahi Kasei will introduce a new fibre under its Bemberg label.

In staple fibre form, the new product is the result of a process that uses cotton linters in a closed-loop process.

Asahi Kasei said it expects the new staple fibre to have applications in knitwear, jersey and casualwear.

A first collection of garments also went on show at Filo: a range of T-shirts that has the staple fibre as its top ingredient, combined with organic cotton and wool. The T-shirts were developed by MagnoLab, a network of textile companies based in Biella in Italy.

The companies involved have called the collection the MagnoLab Project.
