Auction house Christie’s is to launch a new department devoted to sneakers, streetwear and collectibles, calling it Department X. It described these categories as an “emerging collecting space”.

Department X will be a resource for Christie’s to sell rare collectibles in a number of genres, including sports history. It was inspired to create the new department by its recent success in selling rare Michael Jordan sneakers.

To launch Department X formally, Christie’s is arranging the private sale of two pairs of rare shoes that Nike designed with Kanye West.
