The International Cotton Association (ICA) elected a new leadership team at an event in Las Vegas at the start of November, voting Tim North, who is based in Switzerland and runs his own consultancy firm, into the role of president.

First vice-president will be Kim Hanna of TransGlobal Inspections, and Mohomed Bashir of Gul Ahmed Textile Mills will be second vice-president.

Mr North said becoming president of ICA was a great honour. He added: “The textile chain is more transparent than ever. Traceability using science and block chain capacity is making the whole chain more accountable. There is a need and thirst for knowledge, especially on the retail side of the business. For too long, there have been virtual walls between various sectors of the industry.”

He the ICA must engage more fully with with brands and retailers and he welcomed the inclusion of Andrew Olah on the association’s board. He said Mr Olah, the founder of the Kingpins denim exhibition, offered “a great opportunity for us” thanks to his extensive contacts in the industry.
