Changing of the guard at Textile Exchange

16/11/2022
As per an internal succession plan, the chief executive of US non-profit Textile Exchange, La Rhea Pepper, has revealed that she intends to step down from her role at the organisation she co-founded twenty years ago.

She will be replaced by chief operating officer Claire Bergkamp, who joined in late 2020 after making the move from luxury fashion brand Stella McCartney, where she most recently served as worldwide sustainability and innovation director.

Among her voluntary commitments, London-based Ms Bergkamp serves on the British Fashion Council’s Institute of Positive Fashion steering committee and is a director of the Stella McCartney Cares foundation. Set to take up the helm in January, the incoming chief executive obtained a master’s degree from the London College of Fashion in 2011 and previously completed her undergraduate studies at Emerson College in the US.

“We’re not [here] to shout at you,” Ms Bergkamp told Vogue Business during a discussion about her vision for Textile Exchange's approach moving forward. “We want to work with you. I hope that under my leadership, we will continue to help, to transform.”

The non-profit's annual conference, currently underway in Colorado Springs, will conclude on November 18.
