Sustainable chemistry alliance appoints executive director

Industry alliance Sustainable Chemistry for the Textile Industry (SCTI) has appointed Dr Isabella Tonaco as its executive director. She will take up the post on November 1. SCTI said Dr Tonaco would “drive transformational change” in the textile industry. She will be based in Germany.

Launched two years ago by seven chemical companies, the alliance aims to enable brands, retailers and manufacturers to apply new chemistry solutions that will “enhance the wellbeing of factory workers, local communities, consumers and the planet”.

Dr Tonaco said: “As the world moves increasingly toward a circular economy, now is a critical time to transform textiles. I share SCTI’s vision of a global network of empowered industry players who are able to balance environmental, social and economic imperatives while implementing sustainable business strategies that lay the foundation for a new and better future for us all.”

The founder members of SCTI are Archroma, CHT Group, Huntsman, Kyung-In Synthetic Corporation (KISCO), Pulcra Chemicals, Rudolf Group and Tanatex Chemicals.
