Radici pursuing lower impact nylon with Fibrant

Chemical intermediates manufacturer Fibrant, a major producer of caprolactam, the main ingredient for nylon 6, has partnered polymer and yarn producer Radici to “create an industrial-scale nylon solution with the smallest environmental impact.”
The latter said the tie-up will only bolster its existing emissions reduction initiatives. According to its most recent sustainability report, the group invested €3.1 million (around $3.2 million) in energy efficiency and emissions abatement projects in 2021.
Fibrant, meanwhile, has invested more than €40 million ($41.5 million) in bringing its nitrous oxide emissions down across its facilities in both China and the Netherlands, as well as in developing new technologies.
The producer’s EcoLactam product, for example, a key element of its work with Radici, has the lowest carbon footprint in the industry, as the firm’s business development manager for sustainability, Giovanni Henssen, told WSA earlier this year. Mr Henssen said that the ingredient has a footprint roughly 50% lower than the European average, up to 70% lower than the global average.
According to Radici, the collaboration forms part of its wider strategic investment objectives to help make global value chains more sustainable through use of innovative technologies. “Our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of products are ongoing,” its sales and marketing lead for advanced textile solutions, Marco De Silvestri, commented.
