Isbjörn seals its PFAS-free future
Outdoor kidswear brand Isbjörn of Sweden has announced its decision to use YKK’s fluorine-free zippers, which offer durable water repellence without adding per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to either body or trim, meaning that its entire autumn-winter 2023 range is free of PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals”.
All subsequent collections will similarly be PFAS-free, company chief executive Maria Frykman said. Isbjörn, which is committed to sourcing only recycled or biodegradable materials for its lines, has depended on Rudolf Group’s non-fluorinated Bionic-Finish Eco coating treatment to make its outerwear hydrophobic “for many years”, she added.
The brand has also publicly pledged to become net zero by 2045, plus at least halve its carbon emissions by 2033.
