Regenerated nylon goes into new YKK zippers

Zip fastening specialist YKK has added to its range a new collection of zippers made from the Econyl yarn that Aquafil develops from waste nylon.

YKK said it recognised that trims are “one of the biggest challenges for garment recycling” and had sought to address this by creating the new line, which it has incorporated into its Natulon range.

It said the regenerated nylon it has used comes entirely from nylon waste collected around the world from sources such as industrial plastic, fabric scraps, old carpets and fishing nets. Another factor that appealed to YKK is that the material can be continuously recycled without loss of quality.

“YKK understands circular fashion as a regenerative system where garments are circulated for as long as their maximum value is retained, and then returned safely to the biosphere,” said Hitoshi Yamaguchi, president of YKK Italy.
