New quality label for outdoor clothing systems

A new quality label for sports and outdoor textiles by specialist research and testing firm Hohenstein has been designed to evaluate claims made by manufacturers of baselayer, midlayer and outer shell layer clothing systems to help reassure consumers of articles’ suitability for activity before they buy. 

Technical performance such as thermoregulation to DIN CEN/TR 16422 standard, plus basic functional breathability, sweat management, air permeability and water-repellent properties, will all be assessed as a prerequisite for the awarding of each Hohenstein Performance Index label, the company said. 

Hohenstein, headquartered in south-west Germany, currently operates testing labs in India, Bangladesh and Hong Kong, in addition to its home country. Its latest laboratory, located in Shanghai, will open early next year.
