Carhartt puts Clim8’s thermo-regulating AI to work
A new lightweight smart vest from US workwear brand Carhartt uses Clim8’s intelligent thermoregulation technology to circumvent the need for bulky layers by allowing users to monitor and adapt their body temperature to changing conditions in real time.
Called the Carhartt X-1 Smart Heated Vest, the garment, powered by Lyon-based Clim8’s artificial intelligence (AI), enables the wearer to personalise their own temperature settings for optimum on-the-job comfort through pairing the article with a smartphone application via Bluetooth.
Core capabilities include intelligent heating modes that automatically detect when heat should be activated across three strategic zones on the torso, a smart battery pack and the ability to sense when the article is being worn or if it has been removed.
Senior vice-president and general manager of global product at Carhartt, Alex Guerrero, said the team had designed the vest to help “get the job done”, without added distractions caused by fluctuating activity levels, changing weather or other environmental irregularities. It has been under development for two years.
The garment can be purchased from the brand’s website beginning February 1.
