Allied's faster-drying down hits stores
Outdoor brands Artilect and Jack Wolfskin are among the first brands to incorporate US-based down provider Allied Feather and Down’s faster-drying Expedry down insulation, initially announced early last year

By harnessing Fuze Biotech’s chemical-free, active-drying gold nanoparticle technology, which bonds to natural down clusters, Allied says Expedry has been found to dry 40-60% more rapidly than untreated material, making it inhospitable to fungal growth.

Artilect, founded in 2020, described itself as “the first brand in the world” to use Expedry 700-fill-power insulation inside this season’s Divide Fusion Stretch hooded jackets.

The hoodies furthermore include Toray’s PFC-free 20-denier, four-way stretch woven nylon for the body, in addition to a hood, side panels, back hem and sleeves treated with Green Theme Technology’s PFAS-free, durable water repellent Empel technology, plus 100% recycled hand-pocket linings.

Other key design features range from “moisture-resistant” wool in the side panels, hood and underarms from Lavalan Sport, to YKK’s Touchlink smart zipper, this time powered by wearable technology specialist Lifekey. The zip fastening is designed to pair with smartphones to connect users to product history and material composition information, as well as maintenance and repairs advice.
