Through their collaboration, terms of which are still being developed, the parties will “aim for more advanced integration of data”, they said, to better help those engaged in the design and manufacturing of consumer goods to use chemicals more safely and sustainably.
Higg will focus on harnessing ZDHC’s facility improvement resources, while also working with Bluesign to strengthen its data and impact services offer, in addition to exploring ways in which mutual customers can share data between platforms. Further, planned data cross-mapping will enable Bluesign and ZDHC customers to complete Higg’s facility environmental module, the Higg FEM, without having to reinput their data.
Developing closer relationships was described as a route to fast-tracking eco-friendlier supply chains via reduced industry fragmentation. Stronger ties between ZDHC and Bluesign are particularly needed, the partners added, to better leverage industry expertise.
Chief strategy officer at Higg, James Schaffer, commented: “Reliable and universally consumable data is the best weapon we have for advancing sustainability performance as an industry. Partnering with Bluesign will allow us to help our shared customer base enrich their insights, make better chemical purchasing decisions to reduce the negative impacts of manufacturing and protect the environment through better resource management.
“At the same time, our developing partnership with ZDHC [will enable us] to explore more powerful, scalable solutions for joint customers that need to improve chemical usage and wastewater treatment across their entire supply chain.”
