Finalists named for 2023 International Woolmark Prize
The body that works to promote Australian merino wool around the world, The Woolmark Company, has announced eight of the world’s “most promising emerging design talents” as finalists of the 2023 edition of the International Woolmark Prize.
It describes the award as a “talent incubation programme” that also serves to showcase the beauty and versatility of merino wool. The finalists are from South Korea, Denmark, the UK, Nigeria, France, Italy, Ireland and the US.
An award of 60,000 Australian dollars will go to each of the eight finalists to allow them to develop a clothing collection made from merino wool. They will also have the support of a panel of mentors.
There will be one overall winner, who will receive a prize of 200,000 Australian dollars. In addition, the Woolmark Company will award the Karl Lagerfeld Award for Innovation, with a prize of 100,000 Australian dollars, to one of the finalists.
