Wool’s biodegradability endures

06/01/2023

Not only is wool a natural and renewable fibre, but according to studies quoted by the promotions body for Australian merino wool, The Woolmark Company, the fibre’s biodegradability is another strong plus point.

In comments at the start of 2023, The Woolmark Company said the studies had made it clear that the use of recycled wool does nothing to detract from its biodegradability. It said that even at the end of a third life, wool is 100% biodegradable.

It said that the textile industry could speed its transition to “a truly circular economy” by using wool more extensively.
