Decathlon co-founds Spanish textile waste alliance
A group of European retailers comprising Decathlon, Inditex, H&M, Mango, Kiabi, Tendam and Ikea have joined forces to launch the Association for Textile Waste Management in response to Law 7/2022 of April 8, 2022, which came into effect in Spain on January 1.
To ensure compliancy, the group will work via a collective system of extended producer responsibility for the clothing and footwear they generate in the Spanish market, with a particular emphasis on effective post-consumer recycling for a circular textiles economy.
The non-profit, listed in the country’s National Registry of Associations, was inaugurated at the Museo del Traje in Madrid in early January. Its presidency will rotate annually among members, beginning with Mango.
