Japanese ministry forms textile recycling committee
25/01/2023
In an initial meeting, of which six have already been planned, attendees laid out plans to maintain domestic companies’ competitiveness, particularly overseas, in light of top-down textiles strategies already in place in Europe, for example. The need to iron out Japan’s own challenges with keeping textile waste in circulation is anticipated to only become more urgent over time, participants said.
Representatives from local firms Teijin and Kurashiki presented examples of their existing resource recycling efforts to committee members ranging from academics to journalists during this first meeting.
Among those observing proceedings were delegates from the country’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), Natural International Circulation Organization (NICO), Japan Sustainable Fashion Alliance (JSFA) and Japan Chemical Fibers Association (JCFA), plus more.
