DNA technology will provide traceability for recycled acrylic

06/01/2023

Swiss traceability technology provider Haelixa is to start working with Turkish yarn manufacturer Damteks on a project to mark and trace recycled acrylic fibre.

The Haelixa solution uses DNA markers that are dissolved in liquid and applied to fibres as a fine spray.

Typically, customers are asking Damteks for yarn comprised of 30% recycled fibre and 70% standard fibre. The Haelixa technology can “validate the recycled acrylic in the mix”, the companies have said.

“The textile industry is adapting to the requests of consumers and regulators for more transparency and credibility when it comes to eco-friendly materials,” said Haelixa co-founder, Dr Michela Puddu.
