Cotton industry frustration in Bangladesh
Cotton supply chain information resource Cotlook has said January was a frustrating month for mills in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and for traders in the global market shipping cotton to those markets.
It said a dearth of dollars in those countries was making it difficult to bring already agreed import contracts to execution.
In addition, it said in its most recent monthly report that the industry in Bangladesh faced further frustration over energy prices. The government in Dhaka said that gas prices would increase again at the start of February. Cotlook said the cotton and textiles industry in Bangladesh reacted to this news with dismay and that the volume of cotton business concluded in the region in the month of January was limited.
