Chemical company makes water-saving pledge
Malmö-based chemicals group Perstorp has committed to cutting its water use. It has said reductions across its production network will help it meet a target of using 30% less water in 2030 than it did in 2019.
It had already set a 2030 targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Perstop, whose products include polyesters, polyurethane, plasticisers and polymer additives, said it would invest in wastewater recycling projects at several of its production sites. It added that it viewed purifying and recycling water as “an important core technology” in cutting its consumption of fresh water.
At the time of the announcement, vice-president for sustainability at the company, Anna Berggren, said: “Fresh water scarcity is already a fact around the world, and we have a responsibility to reduce our consumption and utilise alternative water sources.”
