Malaysia the focus for new Toray recycling plan

21/04/2023

Fibre developer Toray has launched a new initiative with schools in Penang in Malaysia to collect used water bottles for recycling.

Toray will process the bottles into flakes and chips, which it will then use to make recycled polyester staple fibre. The recycled polyester will be spun and woven into fabric locally for clothing.

On launching the initiative, Toray demonstrated to local children how it will work by providing school shirts, made from recycled polyester, to the pupils of Aik Hua primary school in Penang.

The company has organised a competition to see which school can collect most bottles.
