Solar energy drive continues for YKK
Zipper technology developer YKK has announced 100% of the energy it sources for 31 of its sites worldwide is now from renewable resources.
The company has set itself a target of using 100% renewable energy at all its sites by 2050. In its reporting for business year 2021, it said it had achieved this already at 21 sites. In its 2022 reports, it said this had increased to 31.
Solar power is the key to YKK’s renewable energy drive. Its Min Hang and Lin Gang sites in China are among those to have installed solar energy facilities on site.
For these projects, YKK has opted to instal solar power under a model called Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Under PPA an energy provider installs solar energy technology at its own expense at an industrial facility, often on the extensive roofs of buildings.
Rather than pay the companies that own the facilities for the privilege of doing this, energy companies supply them with renewable energy instead.
