Mint in the mix for new Polartec odour control idea

Fabric developer Polartec has launched a new product called Fresh Face, which it describes as a natural, renewable, and biodegradable odour reducer for fabric technologies based on mint oil.

It will use Fresh Face first in its Delta fabrics and has said the technology will help keep wearers cool thanks to the wicking and moisture management properties it gives to the fabric.

To test the idea, it had people wear garments endowed with Fresh Face for six weeks solid and subjected them to a comparative smell test. The garments then went through a 50-wash cycle to simulate ageing and were the subjected to a follow-up wear-test of another six weeks.

“The result was undeniable,” Polartec said. Fresh Face technology delivers the same level of performance of the older, less sustainable odour control methods. Director of product management, Karen Beattie, said Fresh Face represented “a significant breakthrough in our quest for sustainable textile solutions”.
