Brewed protein target remains for Goldwin, despite concerns about cost
Outdoor and sports group Goldwin remains committed to its goal of having 10% of the material used in newly developed products based on brewed protein polymers by 2030. However, general manager, Gen Arai, has said the group has already received feedback on the idea from consumers who are worried about higher prices for these garments.
In recent comments to media in Japan, Mr Arai said customers had expressed concern about higher prices. But he said he had been encouraged by the quick uptake of limited-edition products, developed from brewed protein polymers, that Goldwin has already launched. These products had sold out within a day, he explained, and had generated high levels of excitement.
The group is a long-term partner of Japanese biotech start-up Spiber.
