Hoodie with Infinna means ‘circularity is reality’ for Finnish brand

Specialist activewear brand for children Reima has launched a new range of hoodies containing Infinna fibres. Infinna, developed by Infinited Fiber Company, is a regenerated fibre made from post-consumer cotton-rich textile waste. Reima and Infinited Fiber Company are both from Finland.

Chief executive of Reima, Elina Björklund, said she liked that the new hoodies were lengthening the life of the cotton textiles that supplied the raw material. She added: “We have also designed it to be used for a long time because the product literally grows with the child. And as the hoodies are a classic style, they can be passed on.”

At the end of the garment’s life, Infinited Fiber can take the garments back and use them to produce more Infinna fibre for new clothes. To reflect this, Reima has given the new hoodie the name Uudesti, a Finnish word that means ‘again’ or ‘anew’.

Other partners involved in the project include Inovafil in Portugal, which had responsibility for spinning the Infinna fibres into yarn, blending them with organic cotton farmed in Tanzania in a 50-50 proportion.

These yarns then went to Italy where Gruppo Eusebio knitted them into a brushed, soft-on-the-inside sweatshirt fabric. From there, the fabric went to Finnish company Ommellinen for cutting and sewing. Tuotenauha, also from Finland, produced the care labels and other trims for the product.

“Finally, circularity is reality,” Elina Björklund said, “and we at Reima are proud to be part of it.”
