Recovered nets are an opportunity, Aquafil CEO says

A circular plastics company in Chile, Atando Cabos, which works with yarn producer Aquafil, has said it now has the capacity to recycle up to 400 tonnes of discarded fishing nets every month.
Aquafil announced its partnership with Atando Cabos in 2022. It uses nylon 6 from nets recovered by Atando Cabos as raw material for its Econyl fibre.
In recent comments on the partnership, Aquafil chief executive, Giulio Bonazzi, said the nets Atando Cabos collects could easily remain in the ocean or, once recovered from there, go to waste. “I choose to see this as an opportunity,” he said. “Thanks to our Econyl regeneration process, they will have a second life.”
