The parent company of sports apparel brand Champion, HanesBrands, has said it will consider selling.

In a statement, HanesBrands said it would undertake a wider process to consider “a broad range of alternatives” for Champion, with the sale of the brand one possible outcome.

In the statement, group chairman, Ronald Nelson, described Champion as “a pioneer of American athletic wear”. Mr Nelson went on to explain that the difference between the innerwear and activewear parts of the Champion business had become wider in recent years.

HanesBrands has set no timetable for the completion of this process.
