Major investment will fund expansion at ETH Zurich
Zurich’s ETH science and technology university has announced a major new investment from the Dieter Schwarz Foundation, which it has said will allow it to create around 20 new professorships over the next 30 years.
Dieter Schwarz is a German billionaire and former chief executive of supermarket group Lidl.
The new professorships will be in Zurich, but also in Heilbronn in Germany, where the Dieter Schwarz Foundation has its headquarters.
ETH president, Joël Mesot, said this partnership would allow the university to develop its research and teaching, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, bioinformatics and the circular economy, “to an extent that would not be possible with regular funding and structures”.
