Upcycling idea will give a second life to Polartec inventory
Fabric developed Polartec is to work with Must Had, a software provider that seeks to enable companies to repurpose, reuse and recycle their end-of-life textile products. Polartec said the agreement would help it find a second life for its excess inventory.
It added that this would benefit upcycling designers and small businesses, supporting their efforts to produce clothing with high levels of sustainability .
One of the first examples features upcycling designer Ilaria Ferrari, who has developed blankets, scarves, and hair bands exclusively from discarded Polartec fabrics.
The partnership officially launched at the end of January during Winter Business Days, an annual event dedicated to the ski and alpine sports industry that takes place in Ponte di Legno in Italy.
During the event, Must Had arranged with Ilaria Ferrari to donate some of the accessories made with repurposed Polartec materials to some of the companies taking part. An upcycling workshop also took place, in which Ms Ferrari customised each accessory by hand.
