Doubts over Indorama PTA and PET production in Rotterdam
Fibre manufacturing group Indorama has announced that it will enter into a formal consultation process with employees in the Netherlands over the future of production of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) at its plant in Rotterdam.
The Thailand-based group said this evaluation had come amid “competitive and macroeconomic challenges”, including rising costs for labour, materials and energy, and competition from lower-cost imports.
“Structural shifts in the industry are contributing to a growing divergence in raw material expenses between China and Europe, with limited anticipated recovery,” Indorama said.
