Textile technology developer HeiQ has confirmed the location of the new factory in Portugal at which it will set up the first commercial-scale production of its AeoniQ cellulosic yarn.

The production facility will be at Maia, to the north of Porto.

HeiQ said the factory will start production of AeoniQ in 2026 and that it will be “a key stepping-stone” in the scale-up of production of the fibre, which it has described as “a revolutionary cellulosic yarn made from certified wood pulp, featuring the same performance attributes as polyester”.
