A venture capital-backed start-up offering a plant-based alternative to animal and plastic-based ‘fur’ has patented a way of weaving flax, cotton and nettles in such a way that it resembles fur.

Savian by Biofluff’s  first collaboration was with Stella McCartney for a coat, which was on display at the Future Fabrics Exo in London.

Three founders wanted to create an alternative to fur without using plastic, and was admitted to the LVMH incubator programme to help develop the product.

The company is based in New York and Paris, and the material knitted in Italy.
