Fabric makers seize chance to shine at Premiere Vision
Materials and accessories trade show Premiere Vision has opened in Paris, with exhibitors showing fabrics and trends for spring-summer 2023.
PV’s experts suggest there will be renewed focus on alternative fibres to meet raw material supply.
Organic cottons are joined by flax, hemp, nettles and cellulosics derived from agriculture or textile recycling.
The resurgence of spinning mills in Europe has helped to boost this, with traceability certified by European flax or Masters of Linen.
The popularity of refined linens is resulting in new opportunities for hemp and nettles. Hemp has gained in fluidity or is softened by blending with organic cotton. Casual knits and wadding take advantage of the natural shine, strength and breathability of Himalayan nettles.
Synthetics refine the offer of recycled polyesters, polyamides and elastanes, and continue to explore bio-sourced alternatives.
Often seen as an impediment to recycling, elasticity can take different forms to ensure comfort, said PV. "The springy structures of wools and crepe threads offer mechanical suppleness and extension. There are new generations of elastomer fibre in recycled or partially bio-sourced versions."
Taking advantage of developments in chemical recycling, new-generation materials are created from agricultural waste, production offcuts or post-consumer textiles to design the cellulosics of tomorrow such as Circulose or Agraloop.
Premiere Vision runs between February 8 and 10.
