CLASS brings Smart Talks and sustainable materials to Denim PV
Sustainable textiles-focused body CLASS is highlighting denim maker Candiani’s tie-up with Asahi Kasei as part of its Smart Materials Bank at Denim Premiere Vision in London.

It is also curating a programme of ‘smart talks’ including a seminar on The Jeans Redesign Guidelines by Make Fashion Circular, a new cotton transparency scheme and a panel discussion on the role of the designer.

Candiani’s ReGen, winner of the 2019 ITMA Sustainable Award, is a rigid selvedge fabric composed of 50% Refibra fibres and 50% recycled fibre, and ReLast is a stretch fabric composed of organic cotton and ROICA EF stretch yarn made with 58% of pre-consumer recycled content.

ReSolve is made of organic cotton and a customised ROICA V550 degradable stretch yarn developed exclusively for Candiani. The yarn breaks down without releasing harmful substances to the environment, and has received the Hohenstein Environmental Compatibility certification.

Luca Olivini, Eco Hub material manager of CLASS, told sportstextiles.com that the company receives hundred of requests from emerging designers who want to work with innovative and sustainable textiles but who don’t have the contacts in the mills, or who are unable to purchase large quantities of material.

He said: “We constantly monitor the textile business looking for sustainable and innovative products. Our Smart Materials Bank is open to creatives who can purchase at affordable prices samples and small quantities of sustainable materials up to 50 metres.”

Denim PV is under way at the Printworks in London (December 3 and 4).
