Italian textile maker transfers know-how to denim

Canclini was established as a silk mill in Como in 1925, and markets its new offerings through the brand Blue 1925. It works with local dyeing mill Intex.
“We are bringing our knowhow in shirting into denim,” Andrea Di Gaetano, Canclini’s area manager, told sportstexiles.com. “We are producing 12oz to 3oz denim. We are not going to heavier as that’s not our speciality, our speciality is the finest yarn.”
The collection includes linen, bamboo and recycled cotton offerings, and were on show at PV Denim trade fair in London this week, the first time the company has participated.
“We have Canclini products that sit perfectly in the denim area but yet offer something new, and so we wanted to show them to the denim community,” added Mr Di Gaetano.
In its local area, the company has founded a non-profit organisation called Un Sorriso in Piu (An Extra Smile), which funds places in retirement homes for people without family support, as well as supporting children in disadvantaged families.
