Six decades of the Woolmark symbol
Wool industry promotions body The Woolmark Company has celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of the famous Woolmark symbol
The simple symbol comprising the outline of a ball of wool was the winning entry in a design competition for a global graphic identity that the International Wool Secretariat launched exactly 60 years ago.
“Since then, the Woolmark logo has established itself as a symbol of excellence in the textile industry,” the company said.
It has appeared on billions of garments and other textile products. The wool these products use must under rigorous tests of fibre content, colour fastness, durability and washability before a product can bear the mark.
