Impact report shows that effort brings reward, Bluesign says

Textile chemicals certification body Bluesign has published a report showing the environmental progress its system partners have made in recent years.

System partners is the name Bluesign gives to the brands and manufacturers that have signed up to work with it.

For the report, it compared the performance of more than 200 system partners against seven criteria, contrasting figures for 2023 against those for 2018.

These figures showed a reduction of 22% in water consumption, a 23% reduction in energy consumption and a decline of 37% in carbon emissions.

In parallel, the report also showed a 3% increase in the use of renewable energy, a 17% increase in non-coal energy, no increase in the volume of chemicals these companies used to produce fabric and apparel, and 56% share across their chemicals use for Bluesign-approved chemicals.

Chief executive, Daniel Rüfenacht, said Bluesign was moving with its system partners “on a transformative journey”. He added: “These numbers are proof that effort brings reward.”
