New collection from Astral homes in on hemp

Outdoor brand Astral has included hemp in the materials it has used in its forthcoming footwear collection for autumn 2024.

The collection includes two styles that feature organic hemp canvas in the uppers. “Hemp uppers are naturally durable, rot-resistant and breathable,” the Seattle-based brand said. “They absorb natural fabric wax and extend the height of chemical-free waterproof performance. Furthermore, hemp is an extremely sustainable material that improves the soil it is grown in while requiring less water and no pesticides or fertilisers to grow.”

Halestorm 2.0 (pictured) is one of the styles that use the fibre. This is Astral’s take on a modern duck boot, combining the durability, breathability, and comfort of hemp with the brand’s patented G.15 Rubber and Trail Grip outsoles, a zero-drop heel and wider toe box.

As the name suggests, the Hemp Donner 2.0, which Astral describes as “an everyday sneaker with a natural twist”, also uses the fibre. A majority hemp upper offers durability, odour resistance and thermoregulating functionality, the brand has said.
