Woolmark is spending millions on nature-positive programmes
At the time of the launch of its new Woolmark+ programme, The Woolmark Company revealed that it has invested more than 30 million Australian dollars (US$20 million) in nature-positive programmes in the last two years.
It said that 73% of sheep producers in Australia, the largest producer of wool in the world, are now involved in activities to maintain and enhance biodiversity. Another initiative will make sure before the end of 2025 that 90% of Australian wool is traceable.
It pointed out that although wool has a share of only 1% of the global apparel market by volume, its share of the market by value is 8%. In terms of jobs, it said the industry employs 17.5 million people worldwide.
